Warehouse racking also referred to as pallet racking or warehouse shelving is a modern way of warehousing that takes advantage of horizontal space to increase the storage capacity of a warehouse. The warehouse is basically set up in shelves across upright frames that go as high as the warehouse roof. The storage items are then arranged on the shelves and thereby maximizing on the storage capacity of a warehouse. The warehouse shelving model also ensures that your warehouse is well managed and neatly arranged with sufficient lighting flowing through the open shelves. Warehouse racking can be designed in different ways depending on the items being anticipated to be stored. The different racking types are detailed below.
Roll Form Selective Pallet Racking
Selective pallet racking is the most common racking type and it involves having load beams being set onto an upright framework. The beams therefore form shelves onto which items are loaded. The roll form pf warehouse shelving has a tear drop hole on the upright framework onto which the beams are screwed onto. The screwing of the beams are done by a clip onto the teardrop hole. The clip can be easily adjusted along the teardrop hole to adjust the beam either upwards or downwards. This enables this type of set-up to be easily adjusted to store different sizes of items. However, the clip models is weaker than the structural bolt model.
Bolt-In Selective Pallet Racking
In the bolt-in type of warehouse racking, the beams are affixed onto the upright beans by use of a permanent bolting. This makes the beam structure more permanent and it is not easily adjustable for increasing the beam size. It is therefore ideal for storing a standard type of material or product. Since the bolt is firmer, it can also be used to store much heavier materials as compared to the foll form pelleting.
Drive Through and Drive In Pallet Racking Arrangement
This pallet designs are made to allow for forklifts to either drive in or drive through the warehouse with ease. Drive through warehouse racking has a single entry point to the warehouse and the exit point is on the extreme other side of the warehouse. The forklifts will therefore drive through. This is especially ideal for FIFO warehousing. On the other hand, drive in has one door for entry and exit and is therefore ideal for FILO.
Push Back Design
The push back warehouse shelving method is a design of warehouse racking that involves having a beam that is slightly sloping upwards towards the front (loading) point. This way, the materials or loaded by a forklift and they slide down the beam to the furthest part area. This enables for maximum storage space as loads sit side by side. The design also reduces of work of pushing materials next to each other as the gravity pulls the loads towards the base of the beam. The design is especially ideal for FIFO method as you can have the unloading at the lower end (other extreme end) of the beam. However, FILO is also possible when you load and offload from the same point.
